Texas Football: PFF analyst claims Sam Ehlinger will win Heisman
Pro Football Focus has one analyst that is very high on the Heisman chances for senior Texas football quarterback Sam Ehlinger this year.
The predictions for what the Texas football program will do this fall are placing a lot of pressure on the shoulders of head coach Tom Herman and senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger once again. Texas is set to open up their 2020 season on Sep. 12 at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, under the lights with kick off at 7 p.m. CT.
That will be the first opportunity for Herman and Ehlinger to prove that the Longhorns are ready to take a meaningful step forward for this program and potentially win a Big 12 Championship. This will be the final shot for Ehlinger to get a Big 12 Championship in his career on the Forty Acres.
And Texas goes into this season with no shortage of hype. Ehlinger has yet another year with the type of hype that could make him a Heisman finalist.
While the matchup against the UTEP Miners out of the Conference-USA this weekend likely won’t do much for Ehlinger and the Longhorns on the national scene, it can get his production headed in the right direction in Heisman contention. Texas is more than a 40-point favorite against UTEP in the season opener this weekend, which could give Ehlinger a shot to have a field day against their secondary.
But the hype is only starting to build possibly for what Ehlinger can do this fall. Even one Pro Football Focus analyst Seth Galina can feel the hype building for Sam in 2020. He had the take that “Sam Ehlinger is gonna win the Heisman”, earlier this week.

That is quite the statement, but in this weird season in the midst of the novel coronavirus pandemic it’s hard to know who will get the Heisman in 2020. Ehlinger and Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler should be the two out of the Big 12 that are the favorites to get the Heisman this year.
Ehlinger is coming off a junior campaign where he registered well over 4,000 total yards, 39 total touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 8.5 adjusted yards per passing attempt, and a 151.8 passer efficiency rating. Take that production up a notch, and we could be looking at a Heisman finalist in Ehlinger this fall.
There’s a very good chance that a one or two loss Longhorns team this year would get Ehlinger to the point of national recognition he would need to be a Heisman finalist. He just needs to continue to improve his production and efficiency, as he did in each of the last two years of his college career.
