Texas football gets to take on the UTEP Miners in Week 1 of their 2020 season. Why could the Longhorns dominate this game?

The 2020 college football season is now officially underway, and the Texas football program is set to begin their campaign on Sep. 12 at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. This weekend, Texas will kick off their much awaited 2020 season in the midst of the novel coronavirus pandemic. And it all starts against the UTEP Miners out of Conference-USA on Saturday night, under the lights at DKR with kick off time set for 7 p.m. CT.

Texas comes into this season with pretty high expectations once again. For the second straight year, they received a top 15 ranking in both major preseason polls. Last year, the Longhorns were ranked at No. 10 in both the AP Poll and Coaches Poll. This preseason, they ranked at No. 14 in both of those polls.

Last season, the Longhorns finished up with a record of 8-5 (5-4 Big 12) after knocking off the Utah Utes in the Alamo Bowl by a convincing final score of 38-10. Head coach Tom Herman will now get another crack at winning a Big 12 Championship in his fourth year with the program.

Herman took the Longhorns to the Big 12 Championship Game in his second year at the helm, but they ultimately fell short to the Oklahoma Sooners in a revenge game in December 2018. Texas will once again be on their quest to get a Big 12 Title back to the Forty Acres, for what would be the first time in more than a decade. And it all starts with UTEP on Saturday night.

Here’s a look into the three reasons why the Longhorns will dominate the Miners in Week 1.
