Texas football opens up their season tonight against UTEP, and it looks like they’re missing some additional players possibly due to injury.

It looks as if there are a few more players for the Texas football program that could be missing out on the season opener against the UTEP Miners at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Sep. 12, with kick off set for 7 p.m. CT. Texas could also be missing a few other underclassmen, mainly key freshmen, that might’ve got some early playing time otherwise against UTEP.

Since this is the lone non-conference game during the 2020 regular season for the Longhorns, this was a big opportunity for anyone looking to get early playing time that might be further down the depth chart.

Those aforementioned names that could reportedly (Horns247) be missing in the season opener tonight against UTEP are mostly freshmen. They include true freshman wide receiver Troy Omeire, freshman offensive tackle Jaylen Garth, freshman offensive guard/tackle Logan Parr, and redshirt freshman OL Tyler Johnson. On the defensive side of the ball, Texas will be missing sophomore linebacker and the Fort Worth, TX, native Luke Brockermeyer.

There’s a good number of offensive linemen missing for the Longhorns tonight, but most of them weren’t likely to have a big role if any, this year anyway. On the other hand, Brockermeyer and Omeire would’ve been interesting pieces to see make their Longhorns debut against UTEP tonight.

Brockermeyer has yet to register any material stats since arriving on the Forty Acres more than a year ago. And Omeire looked great in fall camp until he suffered a lower body injury that would end his true freshman season before it really was able to begin.

Texas was already set to miss sophomore wide receiver Jake Smith as he is dealing with a hamstring injury, along with redshirt freshman offensive lineman Isaiah Hookfin and true freshman wide receiver Kelvontay Dixon doubtful for this game.

Next. Why Texas will dominate UTEP in the season opener. dark

Once Texas gets past their season opener that they are heavily favored in against UTEP, then they get to open up Big 12 play on Sep. 26 on the road in Lubbock against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
