Who will be the next crop of defensive backs that must step up for the Texas football program this year after B.J. Foster quit the team?

If the report holds up to be true heading into the next game up for the 2020 season for the Texas football program, then this defense will be losing a lot with junior safety B.J. Foster quitting the team. Foster apparently quit the team potentially due to lack of playing time during the third quarter in Texas’ win over the UTEP Miners in the season opener on the night of Sep. 12.

Texas got a big performance out of both sides of the ball in the impressive victory over UTEP out of Conference-USA at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday night. The Longhorns saw a nice first half push them to a 59-3 victory over the Miners in the end.

But one player that didn’t take all that many snaps in the Texas secondary in this game was the former five-star recruit Foster. He only had eight defensive snaps against UTEP, and didn’t get any actual stat line in this game. Foster was also listed behind redshirt senior defensive back Chris Brown at one of the safety positions in the season opener.

By far the most shocking news that is coming out of this game for the Longhorns was Foster quitting the team in the third quarter of the win over UTEP. Rarely do you get something like this, but multiple Longhorns threatened to leave the team at different points of the 2020 offseason. Other Longhorns that announced they were leaving the team at various points of the offseason (just on defense) included junior defensive back Anthony Cook, redshirt freshman defensive end Myron Warren, and junior linebacker Juwan Mitchell.

However, if the news holds up to be true for the rest of the season and Foster is off the team, some other defensive backs are going to have to step up in his absence.

Here’s a look into three Longhorns defensive backs that must step up in the wake of this news.
