Texas Football: 3 players that must step up in place of B.J. Foster
3) Texas football DB’s that must step up in B.J. Foster’s absence: Chris Brown
The aforementioned Brown was a key contributor for the Longhorns at different points over the course of his four years on the Forty Acres to date. This 5-foot-11 and 190 pound fifth-year defensive back even had a decent showing in the season opening win over UTEP on Saturday night.
He registered two total tackles and one pass deflection in the 56-point win over UTEP this weekend. Brown was on the field for a team-leading 44 snaps in the Longhorns win over UTEP last night, and while he didn’t have a huge stat line, he also was efficient when the play came his way. Brown didn’t have any missed tackles and no completions against.
In his career to date, Brown registered 63 total tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack, two interceptions, three pass deflections, and one fumble recovery. His best individual season came last year, where he registered a career-best 46 total tackles, three tackles for loss, one interception, two pass deflections, and one fumble recovery.
In the wake of this Foster news, Brown will be anticipated to continue to take the bulk of the snaps at one of the starting safety positions. He should get a longer leash now that Foster will not be lurking in his shadow to take snaps away. Brown will have to be huge, and consistent, in what will likely be his last year on the Forty Acres.
