1) Takeaways from Texas football win over UTEP: The receiving corps is deep

Heading into the 2020 season, one of the bigger question marks looked to be the receiving corps. Texas lost two extremely explosive and dominant wide receivers to the 2020 NFL Draft between the duo of Devin Duvernay and Collin Johnson. Those two were by far the most productive receivers game-by-game last season.

However, Texas made up for lost time in the season opener with how redshirt sophomore wide receiver Joshua Moore and senior Michigan grad transfer Tarik Black played on Saturday night. Moore led the way right from the get-go, with a 78-yard touchdown catch on the first offensive play of the game.

In total, Moore registered six receptions for 127 yards and one touchdown. That 21.2 yards per catch number is the best of Moore’s career to date. And he more than doubled the total number of receiving yards in this game alone compared to his total body of work during his freshman campaign. He had seven catches for 53 yards and one touchdown back in 2018 as a freshman.

Black also had a nice debut for himself with the Longhorns. He registered five catches for 80 receiving yards and one touchdown. This tied for the second-most receiving yards that Black had in an individual game in his college career. Fellow former grad transfer receiver and senior Brenden Schooler and sophomore Marcus Washington were good for the Longhorns too. They combined for more than 100 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
