How Texas football transfers did in Week 1: Brenden Schooler

There was another impactful performance that the Longhorns got out of a wide receiver from the transfer portal in the season opening win over UTEP last weekend. That other impactful wideout performance came from the former Oregon Ducks and Arizona Wildcats grad transfer senior Brenden Schooler.

While we expected the opportunity for Black to have a big early impact in Week 1 since he got the surprise start over junior wide receiver Brennan Eagles, this uptick in playing time for Schooler was more jostling in-game. He was one of the more productive and consistent skill position players for the Longhorns in their opener.

Schooler actually registered a single-game high 65 yards and one touchdown catch in the win over UTEP. He got those 65 receiving yards and touchdown catch on two total receptions (averaging a solid 32.5 yards per catch). Schooler had one big reception for a touchdown which gave him the more than 50 yards after catch he racked up in this game.

There was one drop that Schooler had in the season opener, but he was one of the highest graded receivers and run blockers in this game. Schooler really showed off his versatility in the opener, and could be a crucial part of this receiving corps moving forward. If he got this big of a role in the opener, watch out for Schooler to continue to make an impact at the outset of Big 12 play.
