A few glaring positions of need remaining in the 2021 Texas football recruiting class can be taken care of by the staff before the Early Signing Period.

There’s not a whole lot of time left in this recruiting cycle for the Texas football program to round out their 2021 class. The 2021 Texas recruiting class certainly has its bright spots, but there’s a few big-time uncommitted prospects remaining that head coach Tom Herman and his staff should really be zeroing in on. With Texas firmly in the midst of the 2020 regular season, there’s a lot to handle for this coaching staff right now.

One of those looming tasks for the Longhorns coaching staff to take care of for the remainder of this calendar year is deciphering how to use the rest of the spots available in the 2021 recruiting class. Part of figuring out the best ways to piece together the rest of the 2021 class is knowing which positions of need are greatest, and which could realistically be filled with a quality prospect.

Texas currently has 17 commits in their 2021 class. Of those 17 commits, one is a five-star prospect, and eight each way are four or three-stars. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 15 in the nation and holds steady in the second spot in the Big 12 behind the Oklahoma Sooners. But Oklahoma is just one spot ahead of Texas in the national class rankings.

Just one commitment could make the difference between the Longhorns jumping Oklahoma in the national class ranking and topping the Big 12 for this cycle. Texas does have to use the final spots in this wisely.

Here’s a look into the three biggest positional needs remaining for the Longhorns 2021 class.
