2) Texas basketball players who must step up in practice: Courtney Ramey

Now we turn to a player on the list for the Longhorns that had a lot more productive 2019-20 regular season through and through. Rising junior combo guard and former four-star St. Louis, MO, native recruit Courtney Ramey does need to be much more consistent during his third year in the NBA, though.

This 6-foot-3 and 185 pound guard has about the most versatile offensive arsenal of any in this Longhorns backcourt rotation. But he has yet to prove that he can be the consistent producer that Texas thought he could be when he joined the 2018 signing class as the highest rated recruit. This could be the time where he steps up in the spotlight.

Ramey played in 31 games during the 2019-20 season (28 of which he started in). He averaged 10.9 points per game, 3.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.1 blocks. Ramey shot 40.1 percent from the field, 31.3 percent from beyond the arc, and 70.8 percent from the free-throw line. He saw an uptick in his field goal and free-throw line shooting percentage, but he saw roughly a seven percentage point dip from three-point land.

He also saw a step back in his box plus/minus rating (down from 4.1 as a freshman to 2.8 as a sophomore). But his win shares per 40 minutes were barely up, and his player efficiency rating was down .1 points.

Where Ramey broke through was in Big 12 play. He averaged 11.4 points per game, while shooting 35.4 percent from beyond the arc and better than 75.0 percent from the free-throw line in conference play.
