Texas Football: 3 bold predictions in Big 12 opener vs. Texas Tech
1) Bold predictions for Texas football vs. Texas Tech: SaRodorick Thompson is held under 75 rushing yards
Texas is going to have to be ready for the plethora of skill position weapons that the Red Raiders are about to throw their way on Sep. 26. Between the likes of standout redshirt sophomore quarterback Alan Bowman, redshirt senior wide receiver TJ Vasher, junior wide receiver KeSean Carter, and redshirt sophomore running back SaRodorick Thompson, Texas Tech has a lot of weapons to use against this new look Texas defense.
Being prepared to limit the offensive potency of the Red Raiders is usually the threat that the Longhorns face in the recent history of this series. Texas did a really good job containing the Texas Tech offense last season, to the tune of just 24 points in their 25-point win at home in the regular season finale. But that might not be the same storyline we read for this weekend.
Thompson is one of the bigger threats to watch out for on this Texas Tech offense. While it was an interesting week for Thompson to say the least (had an arrest reportedly earlier in the week), he is expected to play against Texas this weekend. Thompson went for 118 rushing yards on 22 carries (5.4 yards per carry), good for two rushing touchdowns, in Tech’s season opener.
The fact that Texas knows that Thompson is by far the most potent weapon in the running back room for the Red Raiders is a leg up to Ash and his group. Texas limited UTEP to less than 50 rushing yards, no rushing scores, and just 1.3 yards per carry in the opener. Expect Thompson to have a difficult day on Sep. 26 against this Longhorns front seven.
