Texas football opens up the Big 12 slate this weekend, on Sep. 26 at 2:30 p.m. CT, against Alan Bowman and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

The Big 12 opener looms large for the Texas football program this coming weekend, on the mid-afternoon slate against the Texas Tech Red Raiders on the road. Lubbock will be the site of the Big 12 opener for Texas at Jones AT&T Stadium. Texas can extend their winning streak over Texas Tech to three games if they can take care of business this weekend.

Texas Tech barely knocked off the FCS Houston Baptist Huskies in their season opener, back on Sep. 12 at home, by the final score of 35-33. That was not the type of result that former Utah State Aggies head coach Matt Wells was expecting from his squad out of the gates this fall.

But the Longhorns can possibly take some momentum they got from their season opening win over the UTEP Miners at home under the lights at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Sep. 12, and turn that into a strong start in the Big 12 slate. Texas dismantled UTEP by the final score of 59-3 almost two weeks ago.

The all-time series record between Texas and Texas Tech gives the edge to the Longhorns with a mark of 52-17-0 (.754 winning percentage). Texas has a better winning percentage against Texas Tech than they do most of the other Big 12 teams. These two teams have faced each other each season, and since 1999 the Longhorns have only lost to the Red Raiders on four occasions. Texas truly has controlled nearly every aspect of this in-state conference rivalry.

Texas is a three-possession favorite one day ahead of kick off. And the ESPN Football Power Index gives Texas a roughly 92 percent chance to beat Texas Tech on the road this weekend.

This still isn’t a game that the Longhorns can overlook by any means. Here’s a look into three potential problematic Red Raiders players for the Longhorns in this Sep. 26 matchup.
