1) Problematic Red Raiders for Texas football: Alan Bowman

Picking a quarterback matchup as a problematic one for the Longhorns to deal with can spell trouble, but we’ll see how they fair against Texas Tech this time around. Texas didn’t get to face the talented redshirt sophomore signal caller Alan Bowman in either of the past two seasons, thanks to various injuries.

Last year, it was another upper-body injury that kept Bowman out of all but three games. And he got to play in eight games during his true freshman campaign, before another injury kept him out the rest of the way. We’ll see how long the Red Raiders can keep Bowman healthy this fall until they have to call on someone else.

Nonetheless, Bowman had a decent season opener. He registered 38 completions on 52 passing attempts, for 430 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and one interception. Bowman added 21 rushing yards, 8.2 adjusted yards per passing attempt, and a solid 151.4 passer efficiency rating to that mark.

Bowman brings back 4,088 passing yards, 25 passing touchdowns, 11 interceptions, a completion percentage north of 68.0, 7.7 adjusted yards per passing attempt, and a 144.4 passer efficiency rating with him. Since this is the first time Texas will be facing a healthy Bowman, they’ll have to find a way to adjust for the different style of passing attack.
