Big 12 Football power rankings post-Week 4

7. Texas Tech Red Raiders 1-1 (0-1 Big 12)

There is the slightest margin that comes between TCU and the Texas Tech Red Raiders on this power rankings list. Texas Tech nearly took down the Longhorns at home in Lubbock this weekend. Somehow, redshirt sophomore quarterback Alan Bowman and redshirt sophomore running back SaRodorick Thompson led this game get away from them.

Texas Tech owned a commanding 15-point lead with less than four minutes to go in the fourth quarter against Texas, but wound up coughing up the lead to the effect of a 63-56 overtime decision.

Despite the loss, Thompson and Bowman were impressive in their own rights. Thompson registered more than 120 total yards from scrimmage and two rushing touchdowns. Bowman had more than 320 passing yards, five passing touchdowns, and three interceptions.

6. Baylor Bears 1-0 (1-0 Big 12)

The other Big 12 team that didn’t get to play in a season opener before this weekend’s start to conference play was Baylor. They were supposed to open their season two weekends in a row, initially against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs and then against Houston, but neither played out as planned.

Former LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda took over for Matt Rhule (now Carolina Panthers head coach) and got off to a bit of a slow start. But standout senior quarterback Charlie Brewer pulled it together for Baylor down the stretch, and got a commanding win by more than a 20-point margin over the Jayhawks.

Baylor could easily climb up this list if they knock off West Virginia in convincing fashion in Week 5.
