Big 12 Football power rankings post-Week 4

5. Iowa State Cyclones 1-1 (1-0 Big 12)

Part of the reason for head coach Matt Campbell and Iowa State appearing in the top five of the Big 12 power rankings out of Week 4 is the promise that this team could have if they get rolling from here on out. Iowa State looked pretty bad in their season opening loss at home against Louisiana. But they were much improved in a big 37-34 win over TCU in their Big 12 opener.

Junior quarterback Brock Purdy was better in this game, but it was sophomore running back Breece Hall that was the real driving force to the Clones getting this win over TCU. Hall registered more than 150 rushing yards and three rushing scores. He now has more than 250 rushing yards on the season and four rushing touchdowns. Watch out for Hall for the rest of the Big 12 schedule.

4. Kansas State Wildcats 1-1 (1-0 Big 12)

If not for Kansas State falling short at the hands of Arkansas State in their season opener two weeks ago, they might be on top of this list. But Kansas State didn’t do too well representing the Big 12 when they were convincingly beaten by the Red Wolves in the second half in Manhattan on Sep. 12.

There was not a better response that Kansas State could’ve come out with against Oklahoma this weekend than the way they did. Oklahoma controlled this game by a three possession margin much of the way, but senior quarterback Skylar Thompson would not go away later on in the second half. Thompson was good in this game, with four total touchdowns, getting the Wildcats the win over No. 3 ranked Oklahoma.
