Big 12 Football: Power rankings following more chaos in Week 4
Big 12 Football power rankings post-Week 4
1. Texas Longhorns 2-0 (1-0 Big 12)
It’s still even weird to say that the Longhorns were able to come out on top against Texas Tech this weekend. There was a point when Texas Tech supposedly had a 99.8 percent chance to win the game, but Texas defied all odds and came through when it mattered most.
Texas should be the clear cut top ranked team in the AP Poll out of the Big 12 heading out of Week 4. They entered Week 4 ranked at No. 8, and Oklahoma at No. 3. Those were the top two ranked teams out of the Big 12 in the AP Poll heading into the weekend. And that might still hold true heading out of the weekend. Oklahoma State would have a long way to go to top Oklahoma in the AP Poll and Coaches Poll. They were at No. 15 heading into Week 4.
The driving force to the Longhorns win over Texas Tech in dramatic fashion on the afternoon/evening of Sep. 26 in Lubbock was star senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger. In yet another game where Ehlinger posted sparkling numbers, he was able to guide the Longhorns to nab the anxiety-stroking 63-56 overtime win over the Red Raiders.
Ehlinger wound up with around 350 total yards, six total touchdowns (five passing and one rushing), and one interception in this game. He’s now well over 700 total yards and 11 total touchdowns on this young season. Ehlinger and the Longhorns will get a sizable test next weekend in their Big 12 home opener against the Horned Frogs.
