Texas football got some backing from former USC star running back Reggie Bush, who predicted that they would beat Oklahoma in Red River this year.

There were some hot takes that were delivered from various college football analysts/commentators and media personalities in the midst of the opening weekend of the Big 12 conference slate. One of those takes that was the hottest, and that concerned the Texas football program, was delivered by former USC Trojans and New Orleans Saints long-time running back and special teams threat Reggie Bush.

Now part of the Fox College Football “Big Noon Kickoff” crew along with the likes of his former teammate and USC quarterback Matt Leinart and ex-Ohio State Buckeyes and Florida Gators head coach Urban Meyer, Bush can be seen each passing Saturday during the fall on national TV. And the particular take that Bush delivered on Sep. 26 definitely caught the eyes of both Texas and Oklahoma Sooners fans alike.

At halftime in the contest between Oklahoma and the upset-minded Kansas State Wildcats in Norman, Bush announced his early prediction for the annual Red River Rivalry game. Bush claimed that the Longhorns were going to pull off the likely upset win over the Sooners in a few weekends in Red River during the Fox halftime show between Oklahoma and Kansas State.

This hot take from Bush does have at least some backing to it. But it is too early to tell who the favorite will be in the Red River Rivalry game this year. Both Texas and Oklahoma currently rank in the top 10 in the AP Poll and Coaches Poll. Kansas State is giving Oklahoma a run for its money in their Big 12 opener, and Texas could have a sneaky difficult matchup on tap this afternoon on the road against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

If Texas is able to get through both Texas Tech and the TCU Horned Frogs unscathed in the next two weeks, then we can start realistically talking about their chances to beat Oklahoma. But let’s get through the next two weekends before that discussion really begins.

Texas has Texas Tech on tap in their Big 12 opener on the road in Lubbock. Meanwhile, Oklahoma is rounding out their Big 12 opener at home against Kansas State. The Longhorns kick off against the Red Raiders at Jones AT&T Stadium at 2:30 p.m. CT.

In their season opener on Sep. 12, Oklahoma took care of business in dominant fashion at home against the FCS Missouri State Bears. Meanwhile, Texas dismantled the UTEP Miners in their season opener on the same day at home against the UTEP Miners out of Conference-USA.
