Texas football came away with a comeback win that was nothing short of amazing on the road to open Big 12 play over the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

The door that was open for a brief moment for the Texas football program to establish themselves atop the Big 12 standings, and as the conference’s highest ranked team, turned a bit hazy on this wild afternoon/evening. With the Oklahoma Sooners falling short at the hands of the Kansas State Wildcats on Sep. 26, the door was open for head coach Tom Herman to get his squad in prime position to head up the Big 12 heading out of Week 4.

At one point, it looked like the Longhorns were going to be able to take control of this game. But the Texas Tech Red Raiders hung around the entire way. And then, it looked like Texas Tech was going to take control of the game themselves. But counting out the Longhorns too early wound up being a mistake for some as senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger would lead a massive comeback that will go down as one for the ages.

Texas Tech was behind early against the Longhorns, but special teams kept muddying the waters for each of the two teams. There were multiple blocked punts, fumbles, and onside kicks that each team recovered. One of those onside kicks was the unbelievable bounce that Malcolm Epps recovered off of the leg of junior kicker Cameron Dicker.

With a little less than four minutes left in the fourth quarter, Texas was down by 15 points. It looked like they were down for the count. But two touchdown drives, and one successful two-point conversion, led by Ehlinger and the Longhorns were pushing the game into overtime. They would get a touchdown on their first drive of overtime and a pick from junior safety Caden Sterns would ultimately seal this insane comeback win.

After a crazy comeback win for Texas over Texas Tech, here’s a look into the three takeaways in a game that gave us many memories in Lubbock this weekend.
