Texas Football: 3 takeaways from unbelievable win vs. Texas Tech
1) Takeaways from Texas football’s win over Texas Tech: Queue up Sam Ehlinger’s Heisman campaign
While there were a lot of flaws that poked through at different points of this game on both sides of the ball, the one consistent factor was the confidence that the coaching staff and the offense as a whole had in Ehlinger. The Longhorns star senior leader never wavered down the stretch and wound up being the deciding factor to get the men in burnt orange the victory.
Ehlinger had a huge season opening win, in just barely over one half of play against the Miners two weeks ago. He registered more than 420 passing yards, five passing touchdowns, and no interceptions in the win over UTEP. And he followed that up with a whopping six total touchdowns, around 350 total yards, and just one pick.
The one interception from Ehlinger did break a streak that was going on three games without one. But it was a broken play where the offensive line collapsed early around him. He recovered in a big way to get the Longhorns back in it late in the fourth quarter. There should be the utmost confidence in Ehlinger after this win.
Texas had their leaders on each side of the ball, including Sterns and Joe Ossai on defense and Ehlinger on offense, come up big when they needed it most. Thus, Ehlinger should be thrusted among the two or three Heisman leaders heading out of Week 4. He should definitely be the clear cut leader for the Heisman honors out of the Big 12 after Spencer Rattler fell short of Kansas State.
