Texas football recovers onside kick and gets 2-point conversion to tie game
Somehow the Texas football program was able to comeback against the Texas Tech Red Raiders in a major way on the road on Sep. 26.
There was no crazier game in recent memory for the Texas football program than we had in regulation time against the Texas Tech Red Raiders on the road in the Big 12 opener in Lubbock on Sep. 26. On the opening weekend of Big 12 conference play, Texas and Texas Tech provided for one of the most exciting regulations of the season to date.
The Longhorns got a huge rally out of star senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger in the dying minutes of the fourth quarter. Just when it looked as if head coach Tom Herman’s squad was out of it late in the fourth quarter, the offense and special teams would not give up. Junior kicker Cameron Dicker provided the Longhorns some hope after they got within one possession with a huge onside kick recovery in the final two minutes.
What got the Longhorns to get the onside kick recovery in the first place was the touchdown pass from Ehlinger to junior wide receiver Brennan Eagles. That brought Texas within eight points after the extra-point attempt from Dicker. Then after the onside kick recovery by tight end/wide receiver Malcolm Epps, Texas got another touchdown drive led by Sam.
The second of the two touchdowns was scored by redshirt sophomore wide receiver Joshua Moore, for his second score of the day. Then, Eagles came through in a big way again for the Longhorns as he caught the pass to succeed on the two-point conversion.
The two-point conversion tied the Longhorns with the Red Raiders at 56. This rally saw the Longhorns score 15 unanswered points in the last three minutes or so of the fourth quarter, and push the game into overtime.
Texas also got the first score in overtime, on yet another touchdown catch from Moore. We’re expecting a crazy end to an even crazier game in Lubbock today.
