There was a house call for former Texas football wide receiver and Baltimore Raven Devin Duvernay in the first half against the KC Chiefs.

Former Texas football wide receiver Devin Duvernay had a milestone marker on the night of Sep. 28, as he took the first kick return back for a touchdown in this NFL season. The rookie Texas Ex was picked up by the Baltimore Ravens and head coach John Harbaugh in the third round (92nd overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Duvernay didn’t get much action with the Ravens offense at the outset of the 2020 season. But he did get some work on special teams in the first few weeks of the regular season. Duvernay had five kick returns in the first two weeks of the season, for 119 total yards. The longest return that Duvernay had entering the Monday Night Football game on Sep. 28 was for 38 yards.

Duvernay had 150 all-purpose yards entering the Monday Night Football game against former Texas Tech Red Raiders star quarterback Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. But he saved his best play of the season so far for early in the first half against the Chiefs.

On one of the early kickoffs against the Chiefs, Duvernay returned a kick for 93 yards to the house. It was not only the first career special teams touchdown for the former Longhorn, but it was the first kick return for a touchdown in the entire NFL during the 2020 regular season.

While Duvernay had that huge kick return for a touchdown in the first half against the Chiefs, that brought the game back within a three-point margin for the Ravens, he wasn’t getting much work with punt returns. Duvernay has yet to register a single actual punt return so far this season.

It should only be a matter of time before the Ravens give Duvernay the opportunity to make an impact in the receiving corps. Baltimore doesn’t really have any one wide receiver that is making a huge impact for quarterback Lamar Jackson this season.

Duvernay had a stellar senior campaign with the Longhorns, where he was one of the nation’s most productive wide receivers. He has yet to really get a shot to make an impact with the Ravens on any side of the ball but special teams in the first three weeks of the season.
