Texas Football: 3 reasons Sam Ehlinger is better than Spencer Rattler
Following the first two games of the 2020 season for the Texas football program, quarterback Sam Ehlinger is playing his best that we’ve seen.
While it was not the biggest success, the Texas football program managed to get through their Big 12 opener unscathed. That is not the case for the other blue blood power in the conference over the weekend. Texas did manage to avoid the major upset scare from the Texas Tech Red Raiders on the road last weekend, but the Oklahoma Sooners didn’t have the same fate against the Kansas State Wildcats at home.
Texas and Oklahoma were the two undefeated teams ranked in the top 10 of both major polls heading into Week 4. Now the Longhorns are the only team both ranked in the top 10 in the AP Poll and Coaches Poll while remaining undefeated in the Big 12. In fact, the only other Big 12 team that is both undefeated and ranked in the top 25 heading into Week 5 is the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Texas is ranked at No. 9 in the Week 5 AP Poll and Coaches Poll. Meanwhile, Oklahoma State is at No. 17 in the AP Poll and Oklahoma is one spot behind the Pokes at 18. The Longhorns escaping Texas Tech in Lubbock in a massive and shocking comeback win by the final score of 63-56 in overtime does keep them at the forefront of the Big 12 in relation to who could represent in the College Football Playoff.
The major key for both the Sooners and Longhorns from here on out will be the quarterback play. Texas and Oklahoma likely have the two players that have the best shot at winning the Heisman Trophy from the Big 12 this fall. Senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger has to be leading that race, though, over Oklahoma redshirt freshman Spencer Rattler at the moment.
Here’s a deeper look into three reasons why Ehlinger is better than Rattler and should hold the edge in the Heisman race this year.
