Texas Football: Ehlinger, Bijan Robinson sustained minor injuries vs. Tech
Texas Tech apparently banged up a few skill position players for the Texas football program in the crazy overtime comeback win last weekend.
An absolutely insane comeback win for the Texas football program over the Texas Tech Red Raiders over the weekend on the road in the Big 12 opener on Sep. 26 did see a few casualties along the way for head coach Tom Herman. Texas apparently had two minor injuries sustained by two of the most notable skill position players in the win over Texas Tech.
According to a report from Horns247 (paid content), both senior quarterback Sam Ehlinger and true freshman running back Bijan Robinson had various injuries sustained over the weekend against Texas Tech. The injuries kept and/or limited each of those two out of practice on Sep. 27, but doesn’t look to keep them out any longer than that from football activities.
It really doesn’t sound as if Robinson and/or Ehlinger will miss any time against the TCU Horned Frogs in the Longhorns Big 12 home opener on Oct. 3.
The injury that Bijan sustained in particular came when he tried to hurdle a Texas Tech defender and wound up getting flipped over on his back. His back appears to be fine but he did miss the team’s first practice following the game.
For Ehlinger, he apparently sustained a bone bruise on his right leg on a hit from Texas Tech late in the game. It sounds like he was stiff in the first practice following this game, but should be able to participate in drills the rest of the week heading into the TCU game.
After this injury that Robinson sustained last weekend, the coaching staff “made it clear” that the Longhorn players are no longer allowed to hurdle defenders.
Robinson got a decent workload in his first two games on the Forty Acres. He registered 50 rushing yards on nine attempts and 20 receiving yards on three catches, with no touchdowns. Meanwhile, Ehlinger registered more than 700 total yards, 11 total touchdowns, a 71.2 completion percentage, and just one interception in the first two games of the 2020 season.
Next up for the Longhorns after rallying against Texas Tech on Sep. 26 in overtime, in a win by the final score of 63-56, is a home matchup against head coach Gary Patterson’s Horned Frogs. Texas kicks off against TCU on Oct. 3 in the morning slate at 11 a.m. CT at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
