Head Texas football coach Tom Herman and offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich gave the X-wide receiver start vs. TCU to junior Brennan Eagles.

The third official depth chart release is out for Texas football in the midst of the 2020 regular season. Ahead of the battle for Texas head coach Tom Herman against head coach Gary Patterson and the TCU Horned Frogs at home at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Oct. 3, with kick off set for 11 a.m. CT, the depth chart had some interesting changes.

Maybe the most notable of the changes for the Longhorns in their depth chart release for their third game of the 2020 season was giving the start at the X-wide receiver position to junior Brennan Eagles. In the last two games, the Longhorns gave the start to former Michigan Wolverines senior and grad transfer Tarik Black at the X-wide receiver position.

There wasn’t a single reception in store for Black in Week 4, when they took care of business in insanely dramatic comeback fashion on the road in the Big 12 opener over the Texas Tech Red Raiders back on Sep. 26. Texas had a 15-point comeback with less than four minutes to go late in the fourth quarter, and then got the lone touchdown in overtime to officially take the win back to the Forty Acres.

Black did have a nice showing in the season opening 59-3 win over the UTEP Miners at home back on Sep. 12. He registered five catches for 80 yards and one touchdown in the win over UTEP. And in the win over Texas Tech, Eagles came up big and had one of the crucial touchdown catches late in the game. Eagles also had the critical two-point conversion to tie the game late in the fourth quarter.

Through two games this season, Eagles has four catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns. He had one touchdown catch in each of the first two games of the season. And while Eagles led Texas in drops by a good margin last season, with nine, he has yet to have one in two games this season.

Back ahead of the season opener more than two weeks ago against UTEP, Black was the one that got the surprise start over Eagles. And heading into the Longhorns Big 12 home opener this coming weekend, Eagles took that slot back at X.

Next. 3 things that Texas is missing two games in. dark

The other two starting wide receivers that are set on the official depth chart release for the Longhorns are sophomore Jake Smith (could be his season debut) and redshirt sophomore breakthrough Joshua Moore. Texas could have a really potent trio of starting wide receivers set to take on the Horned Frogs this weekend.
