What are the most positive surprising areas, or some that Texas football could still improve, this season heading into Week 3 against TCU?

Through two games this season, the Texas football program is still unscathed and sits in the top 10 in both major polls. Given that Texas was heavily favored against both the UTEP Miners in the season opener, and the Texas Tech Red Raiders on the road last weekend, this shouldn’t be a huge surprise that they’re undefeated.

Texas barely got past Texas Tech in their Big 12 opener on Sep. 26 in Lubbock. It took a crazy 15-point comeback in the span of roughly two minutes late in the fourth quarter for the Longhorns to even push the game into overtime. Senior star quarterback Sam Ehlinger led the Longhorns offense to put up 15 points with less than four minutes to go late in the fourth quarter to even tie the game at 56.

Then Ehlinger found redshirt sophomore wideout Joshua Moore to push the lead to seven points (after the Cameron Dicker extra-point). Texas stopped Texas Tech on the next possession to seal the thrilling 63-56 comeback win in overtime.

Although avoiding the upset at the hands of the Red Raiders last weekend is big for head coach Tom Herman, it did show a lot of flaws and surprising notes on each side of the ball. A lot of the surprises that emerged both in the win over Texas Tech, and the 59-3 dismantling of UTEP at home in the season opener, are commonalities that could be signs of what’s to come for the rest of the regular season.

Here’s a look into those three biggest surprises of the first two games of the regular season for the Longhorns.
