3) Biggest surprises for Texas football: Interceptions

An underrated positive note from the first two weeks of the season for the Longhorns was the number of interceptions. Through two games, Texas is already almost halfway to the total numbers of interceptions that they had all throughout last season. Averaging two interceptions per game would be a great way for Texas to ring in new defensive coordinator/safeties coach Chris Ash.

Through the first two games of the season, the Longhorns have four picks. Three of them came in the win over Texas Tech. And the other one came in the win over UTEP.

What’s good to see about the interception trend for Texas is the fact that all four of them came from different defensive backs. If the Longhorns have this amount of contributions coming in the turnover department from this level of the defense, it bodes well for their efforts for the rest of the season.

The picks thus far have gone to redshirt junior cornerback Josh Thompson, sophomore safety Chris Adimora, senior safety Chris Brown, and junior safety Caden Sterns. It would be nice to see defensive backs like Thompson and Sterns step up more often in pass coverage, though. Those are two of the lowest graded defensive backs in pass coverage through two games.
