2) Biggest surprises for Texas football: Joshua Moore’s breakout

A very welcome breakthrough happened in the receiving corps in the first two weeks of the season for the Longhorns. Moore has broken through in a big way, and contributed a lot in both wins for Texas so far. He and Ehlinger seem to have a tremendous connection. Moore could also help fill the void left by former Texas star wideout Devin Duvernay.

Through two games, Moore has registered 11 catches for a whopping 200 yards and four touchdown catches. While he’s not near on pace to match the number of catches and receiving yards per game that Duvernay had last year, he is well on pace to surpass the number of touchdown catches from either him or Collin Johnson.

Moore had a massive outing in the win over Texas Tech. He registered another 70 receiving yards and three touchdown catches. He also had the touchdown catch to get the win in overtime. The production that the Longhorns are getting from both Moore and junior wideout Brennan Eagles are really important to facilitate the passing game for the rest of the year.

Against TCU this weekend, Moore and Eagles are both getting the start at two of the three wide receiver spots. The other should be going to sophomore slot receiver Jake Smith, who is looking to make his season debut for the Longhorns. But it appears that Moore has come to the forefront as the potential primary target in the passing game for Ehlinger.
