Yet another defensive back this year is in the NCAA Transfer Portal out of the Texas football program, redshirt freshman CB Kenyatta Watson II.

A tad bit surprising news dropped for the Texas football program following the tragic 33-31 home loss over the weekend to the TCU Horned Frogs. Texas lost their first game of the Big 12 slate and of the 2020 regular season in one swing. And then redshirt freshman cornerback and former four-star recruit Kenyatta Watson II put salt in the wound for head coach Tom Herman, defensive coordinator Chris Ash, and cornerbacks coach Jay Valai.

The news dropped for the Longhorns that the second year defensive back Watson II intended to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal on Oct. 4. While that doesn’t guarantee that Texas will lose Watson II heading into next offseason, it’s not good news for the depth in the secondary. Texas could now have one extra spot to fill among the cornerbacks.

That won’t be an easy task either by way of the transfer portal or on the recruiting trail. They only have just under three months until the first day of the Early Signing Period arrives and the complete picture of the transfer portal isn’t close to being formed yet.

What Texas is losing in Watson II is even more cornerback depth that they can’t really afford to lose at this point in time. Watson II only had snaps in one of three games so far this season, in the season opening win over the UTEP Miners. He registered three total tackles (two solo and one assisted), 0.5 tackles for loss, and one pass deflection in a solid outing in the season opener back on Sep. 12.

Where could Watson II go from here? While it’s no guarantee he ends up leaving the Forty Acres in the end, there’s obviously a good chance he’s already got a few landing spots in mind.

Here’s a look into three potential landing spots for Watson II after entering the transfer portal over the weekend.
