3) Problematic Sooners for Texas football: DaShaun White

The Oklahoma defensive line would usually be the least of the concerns for the Longhorns in the annual Red River Rivalry game. Oklahoma’s defense made a name for itself in getting gashed week in and week out, similar to that of Texas of late. But Oklahoma’s defense actually showed up to play last year, and stymied then junior quarterback Sam Ehlinger and this Longhorns rushing attack.

And one of the breakthrough defensive players for Oklahoma so far this season that could be problematic for the Longhorns in the trenches is the 6-foot and 225 pound junior linebacker DaShaun White. Showing an elevated pass rush ability and not missing out on all that many tackles so far this season, White is a big revelation for the Sooners.

Through three games this season, White registered 12 total tackles (eight solo and four assisted), a team-leading 4.5 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. White only has one missed tackle on the season so far, and more than five stops. There’s also only been one pass attempt that was completed against him for 12 yards on the season to date.

Last year, you could really notice that White was knocking on the door of becoming a standout pass rusher. He only had one sack as a sophomore, but a whopping seven quarterback hurries. He’s got one quarterback hurry this season and three sacks, so his pursuit in rushing the quarterback is getting more efficient.
