Texas Football: 3 problematic Sooners for the Longhorns in Red River
1) Problematic Sooners for Texas football: Marvin Mims
There are two skill position weapons that the Longhorns really have to watch out for in Red River next weekend. The first is the speedy 6-foot-1 and 175 pound junior Charleston Rambo. On the season to date, Rambo registered 192 total yards from scrimmage on 14 touches (13.7 yards per touch) and two touchdowns.
And the other, and likely more potent threat to the Longhorns secondary, is the 5-foot-11 and 180 pound freshman stud Marvin Mims. The former five-star recruit and versatile skill position threat for the Sooners is already one of the team’s leading receivers through the first three games of his college career.
Mims registered 11 catches for 144 yards and three touchdowns in the first three games of the season (more than 13.0 yards per catch). He’s got both one of the highest receiving grades and overall offensive grades on the team. And Mims has yet to drop the ball once, and he’s caught 11 of the 15 passes that were thrown his way.
Of the four passes that weren’t caught that targeted Mims, two were either tipped or were rather poor throws from Rattler.
Mims is one of the speedier and more elusive wide receivers that the Texas secondary will have to deal with this year. Whether it be him trying to burn his defender in coverage over the middle or sneaking behind the defense to give Rattler a deep target, Texas can’t sleep on the threat that Mims poses in Red River.
