The 2022 Texas football recruiting class is after a top tier target out of California with five-star Mater Die cornerback prospect Domani Jackson.

One of the biggest targets in recent memory on the trail for any Texas football recruiting class is coming up in the very near future. Five-star Mater Dei cornerback and the 6-foot-1 and 185 pound product out of Santa Ana, CA, Domani Jackson is a big-time priority for this Texas coaching staff.

And Jackson is reportedly (Horns247 paid content) planned to take a visit soon to Austin.

While it sounds weird to talk about recruiting visits in the age of the novel coronavirus pandemic, it is nice that the Longhorns are getting a “self-guided” visitor through the Forty Acres. Since Jackson is not too close to home in Austin as a California native, getting him to campus on that aforementioned “self-guided” visit is key to making that connection stronger.

Jackson appeared to be trending to the USC Trojans and head coach Clay Helton for much of his recruitment of late. But there is still a long ways to go before the 2022 recruiting class comes to the forefront. The Early Signing Period and National Signing Day are both more than two months away, and five months from rounding out this cycle officially.

Nonetheless, head coach Tom Herman and cornerbacks coach Jay Valai should be constantly seeking out the best prospects that they kind and building those relationships to make sure each recruiting class is sound. Texas could really use a commitment from a prospect of Jackson’s caliber. And hopefully this visit will get his interests to start to sway more in their direction.

Jackson ranks as the nation’s No. 3 2022 high school prospect, and top overall cornerback and prospect out of California (247Sports Composite). He’s got offers from more than three-dozen schools. The highlighting schools on his offer sheet includes the USC Trojans, Michigan Wolverines, Alabama Crimson Tide, Clemson Tigers, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, LSU Tigers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oklahoma Sooners, Ohio State Buckeyes, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Oregon Ducks, and Tennessee Volunteers.

If he landed with Texas, Jackson would be able to join a class with the nation’s top ranked 2022 high school prospect, with elite five-star Southlake Carroll pro-style quarterback Quinn Ewers, in the Top247. It would truly start to become an elite class heading onto the Forty Acres.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2022 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 4 in the nation and in the top spot in the Big 12 ahead of Oklahoma. They have three commits in the 2022 class, including that of Ewers.
