It really needs to be go time for the Texas football program as they take on the unranked and slipping Oklahoma Sooners in the annual Red River Rivalry game this weekend. On Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. CT at the Cotton Bowl at the Texas State Fairgrounds in Dallas, Texas and Oklahoma will both try to right the ship following difficult losses last weekend.
Texas is coming off a rough loss in their Big 12 home opener last weekend at the hands of head coach Gary Patterson and the ultra-stingy TCU Horned Frogs. TCU got the best of Texas after junior running back Keaontay Ingram fumbled the ball with less than two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, by the final score of 33-31.
After the loss to TCU, the Longhorns carry a record of 2-1 (1-1 Big 12) into this weekend’s Red River game against Oklahoma. Their two wins came over the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Big 12 opener and the UTEP Miners in the season opener back on Sep. 12.
Meanwhile, Oklahoma is slipping up even further than Texas of late. They carry a record of 1-2 (0-2 Big 12) into Red River. Their two losses to start the Big 12 slate came against the Iowa State Cyclones and Kansas State Wildcats.
While Texas does have the better record and higher ranking in the AP Poll (No. 22), they are around a field goal underdog as of the afternoon of Oct. 9. But this should be a close one between these two teams that are growing increasingly desperate early in the season still.
