2) Takeaways from : Sam Ehlinger still missing open throws

While Ehlinger did help the Longhorns come through at the end of regulation in Red River, he also missed a number of throws that could’ve sealed it well before overtime arrived. We do have to give props to Ehlinger for the way he ran the ball at the end of the fourth quarter and in overtime, but his completion percentage and passer efficiency rating just keeps getting worse each passing week.

Ehlinger surely had a massive push for the Longhorns at the end of regulation and in overtime, but we needed to see that from him in the previous quarters to make sure that the craziness that existed in this game doesn’t happen in the future. Texas surely could’ve rode a big Ehlinger game to a comfortable win in Red River, but they never had control.

The stat line that Ehlinger finished up with was 30 completions on 53 passing attempts, for 287 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, two interceptions, a whopping 112 rushing yards, and four rushing touchdowns. But it was that critical last interception that wound up costing the Longhorns in the end.

There’s got to be some way that Yurcich and/or Herman and Ehlinger get on the same page when it matters most. He keeps putting up big stat lines thanks to the need for big late game comebacks. That didn’t truly reflect how the Texas offense, and especially the offensive line, played throughout most of the game.
