3-Star DT Albert Regis spurns Texas football, commits to Texas A&M
Another hit to the 2021 Texas football recruiting class arrived over the weekend with 3-Star DT Albert Regis committing to Texas A&M.
On and off the field, there are a lot of problems persisting for head coach Tom Herman and his staff. Even the 2021 Texas football recruiting class is really starting to suffer for the problems that are found within this program at the moment. Texas just recently lost a commitment from their second most prized prospect in the 2021 class, with the decommitment of the elite four-star Denton-Ryan athlete Billy Bowman Jr.
To follow up on that lost commitment from Bowman Jr., the Longhorns 2021 recruiting class didn’t get much good news over the weekend. One of their bigger remaining uncommitted recruiting targets on the defensive side of the ball for this cycle, three-star La Porte defensive tackle Albert Regis, just gave his pledge to the in-state rival Texas A&M Aggies over the Longhorns and a few other schools.
This sizable 6-foot-1 and 300 pound product coming out of La Porte, TX, held offers from 17 schools prior to announcing his commitment to Texas A&M on Oct. 10. The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet included the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Arkansas Razorbacks, Baylor Bears, Illinois Fighting Illini, Houston Cougars, North Texas Mean Green, Ole Miss Rebels, SMU Mustangs, TCU Horned Frogs, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Virginia Tech Hokies.

The commitment of Regis to head coach Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies over the weekend came on his Twitter timeline on the afternoon of Oct. 10, as the Longhorns were battling the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry game. Texas ultimately wound up falling short in Red River, and the race to land Regis’ commitment in their 2021 class.
Regis ranks as the nation’s No. 428 2021 high school prospect, No. 26 defensive tackle, and No. 63 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 218 high school prospect, No. 16 defensive tackle, and No. 37 prospect out of Texas.
Things are not looking too good right now for the Longhorns on the field or on the recruiting trail. According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 Texas recruiting class is down to the No. 17 ranking in the nation and sits further behind Oklahoma for the second spot in the Big 12.
Meanwhile, Texas A&M’s 2021 recruiting class got to jump the Longhorns in the national class rankings after landing this commitment from Regis. They’re up to No. 16 in the national class rankings, and at No. 6 in the SEC.
