Former Texas football standout punter Michael Dickson had some criticism for the Longhorns coaching staff in the loss to Oklahoma.

It was a long weekend for anyone associated with the Texas football program. Texas head coach Tom Herman saw his team fall short for their second straight loss in Big 12 play this weekend, this time at the hands of the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry game. Oklahoma took down Texas in a wild overtime finish, by the final score of 53-45.

There were a lot of agonizing moments from this Longhorns loss to Oklahoma. They made a ton of mistakes that, if prevented, would’ve helped to get them control of the game. And a lot of the mistakes Texas made in this game were very preventable and have a lot of blame that has to go back to Herman and his coaching staff.

Problems like poor penalties, lack of offensive rhythm and defensive timing, special teams mishaps, and personnel issues, are all ones that place the blame on the coaching staff. The patience really seems to be running thin, or have already run out completely, with Herman and his staff.

And one former Longhorn that felt like he needed to call out the Texas coaching staff over the weekend was the current Seattle Seahawks punter and former All-American Michael Dickson. He reportedly (Hookem.com) took to Twitter to criticize the Texas coaching staff and defend his cousin, junior punter Ryan Bujcevski. A current Longhorn that’s had an up and down season himself, Bujcevski was the source of some of the mishaps in Red River on Oct. 10.

Bujcevski had another punt that was blocked and taken back for a touchdown. Texas has multiple special teams mishaps, including a missed field goal that is usually a chip shot for junior kicker Cameron Dicker. As a whole, the special teams for the Longhorns has been pretty bad since the departure of Dickson following the 2017 season.

Herman himself also took a lot of the brunt of the loss on his shoulders in his post-game press conference. But just because Herman took the responsibility on his own shoulders doesn’t mean that all is going to be fine.

There is a lot of building pressure on Herman and his coaching staff after the Red River loss to Oklahoma in overtime. Texas now carries a record of 2-2 (1-2 Big 12) following the loss to Oklahoma. The lone two wins of the season so far for the Longhorns came over the Texas Tech Red Raiders and UTEP Miners.

Next up for the Longhorns is a bye week, and then a home showdown against the Baylor Bears on Oct. 24. Things won’t get any easier for here for Herman and the Longhorns. After taking on Baylor, they then travel to Stillwater on Halloween night to face the No. 7 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys at Boone Pickens Stadium.
