Texas Football: 3 overreactions from agonizing loss to OU
1) Overreactions from Texas football’s loss to OU: All of the pressure on Tom Herman
This might be the least of the overreactions on this list since it is very much a reality that Herman faces with the Longhorns right now that his seat is heating up very fast. The fact that Texas heads into a bye week might not actually be a good thing for the first time in a while for Herman and his struggling Longhorns.
Herman now holds a record over the course of his four years as the Texas head coach of 27-17 (.614 winning percentage). The losses keep piling up for Herman and the Longhorns when they’re the ranked team, facing an unranked opponent. Herman can’t really keep his team playing up to par when they have lofty expectations they’re trying to meet.
And it feels like the patience has run well beyond thin for Herman as head coach on the Forty Acres. The fan base seems to really want Herman out during the bye week, but the reality of making that happen is more difficult than one might think. Replacing Herman might be something that the Longhorns do closer to the end of the season if their struggles continue.
There are already discussions of Longhorns fans wanting this team to look into hiring someone like former Ohio State and Florida head coach Urban Meyer, or reminiscing about the days under former head coach Mack Brown. But the hiring of someone like Meyer might not become a reality, and it’s hard to tell the best way to proceed with the Herman situation.
