Former Texas football transfers still waiting to make their debut

Jordan Pouncey, Florida WR

Heading into Florida’s big time matchup against Texas A&M on Oct. 10, former Texas wide receiver and three-star recruit Jordan Pouncey received word that he would get immediate eligibility from the NCAA for this fall. This 6-foot-1 and 215 pound junior wide receiver joined his brother, and former four-star cornerback recruit Ethan Pouncey, in playing for head coach Dan Mullen and the Gators this year.

But neither of the two Pouncey brothers have even taken a snap for the Gators yet this season. Apparently Jordan is dealing with an unspecified injury that bothered him during offseason workouts and preseason camp dating back around two or three months.

We’ll see if he’s able to make his debut in Florida’s next game, which comes against LSU at home on the afternoon of Oct. 17.

JP Urquidez, Texas State OT

The former three-star recruit and senior Texas State Bobcats offensive tackle JP Urquidez was one of the bigger departures from the Longhorns into the transfer portal last offseason. Urquidez was expected to hold a pretty significant backup role, and get some playing time, along the Texas offensive line if he stuck around on the Forty Acres this fall.

But Urquidez surprisingly still hasn’t taken his first snap of game action with Texas State as of yet. Texas State was in action over the weekend, in a 37-17 loss to the Troy Trojans. Next up for the Bobcats is an Oct. 17 showdown against the South Alabama Jaguars on the road.

Donovan Duvernay, Northwestern State CB

The fellow former three-star cornerback recruit and redshirt senior Donovan Duvernay put his name in the transfer portal early last offseason. He landed with the FCS Northwestern State Demons, who aren’t playing a fall football season. It looks like the schedule is getting rounded out for Northwestern State for the spring, starting on Feb. 20 on the road against the Lamar Cardinals.
