Former Texas football transfers who played in Week 6

Gerald Wilbon, Louisiana Tech DT/NT

Although he was only on the field for a few snaps, senior defensive tackle/nose tackle Gerald Wilbon has helped contribute at least a little bit to a good start this season for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. Those two snaps that Wilbon was on the field for over the weekend came in Louisiana Tech’s narrow four-point victory over the UTEP Miners.

On the season so far, Wilbon has registered three total tackles (two solo and one assisted), one quarterback hurry, and one quarterback hit. Most of his game action came in wins for Louisiana Tech over FCS Houston Baptist and the Southern Miss Golden Eagles last month.

D’Andre Christmas-Giles, FIU DT

About the most impressive former Texas transfer on the defensive side of the ball playing elsewhere around the country in Week 6 was the senior defensive tackle D’Andre Christmas-Giles. Now playing for the Florida International Panthers, Christmas-Giles had a big effort on Oct. 10 in a tough three-point loss at the hands of the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders, by the final score of 31-28.

In that loss to Middle Tennessee, Christmas-Giles registered three total tackles, one tackle for loss, and one stop on third down. On the season so far, Christmas-Giles registered six total tackles, one tackle for loss, two quarterback pressures, and three stops on third down. All that production came in the span of just two games played with FIU.

Kyle Porter, Houston RB

Another significant performance among the former Longhorn transfers now playing elsewhere in Week 6 was the Houston Cougars redshirt senior running back Kyle Porter. Former West Virginia Mountaineers head coach (currently in the same role with the Houston program) Dana Holgorsen finally got to make his season debut over the weekend.

In a convincing 49-31 win over the Tulane Green Wave to open up their season on Oct. 9, Houston looked pretty good. Porter was the leading rusher for Houston in the win over Tulane with 57 rushing yards on 11 carries, and one rushing score. Porter has now registered more than 530 career total yards from scrimmage and six total touchdowns in his two years playing for Houston.
