How former Texas football transfers fared in Week 6
Former Texas football transfers on a bye in Week 6
Chris Naggar, SMU K/P
The SMU Mustangs have a couple of former Texas transfers on their team this season. On special teams, senior kicker/punter Chris Naggar is making waves with SMU after not getting much of a chance to prove himself behind Cameron Dicker during his time with the Longhorns.
Naggar was really good for the Mustangs special teams unit so far this season. He’s a perfect 7-of-7 on field goal attempts, and is also almost perfect on his extra-point tries. Naggar has missed one extra-point attempt, on 22 tries, on the season so far.
And the highlight of the season to date for Naggar was nailing the game-winning field goal try back on Oct. 3 in a big win for SMU over the AAC foe Memphis Tigers.
Shane Buechele, SMU QB
Over the course of the last two seasons, two of the nation’s leading producers among FBS quarterbacks were the Longhorns senior signal caller Ehlinger and SMU’s redshirt senior signal caller Shane Buechele. While both Buechele and Naggar were on a bye week with SMU last weekend, they are both doing really well since leaving the Forty Acres.
Buechele has now registered 1,326 passing yards, 10 passing touchdowns, just two interceptions, a completion percentage north of 69.0, 10.3 adjusted yards per passing attempt, and a sparkling career-high 170.1 passer efficiency rating. He also has just shy of 50 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown on the season so far.
Up next for the nation’s second best quarterback in passing yards on the season to date is a Friday night showdown on Oct. 16 on the road against Tulane. Buechele and the Mustangs hold a perfect 4-0 (1-0 AAC) record on the season to date, which earned them the No. 17 ranking in this week’s AP Poll.
