1) Texas football DB transfer targets to replace Kenyatta Watson: D.J. Ford

Definitely a really interesting name that just showed up in the transfer portal among the defensive backs is the North Carolina Tar Heels senior cornerback/safety D.J. Ford. After opting out of playing in the 2020 season under former Texas head coach Mack Brown with the Tar Heels this fall, Ford wound up looking to depart out of Chapel Hill completely.

While Ford doesn’t have all that much eligibility left for his time in college, this should still be considered a big blow to the Tar Heels secondary for next season. Ford was a big part of their defensive backfield in each of the last two seasons, and he would’ve been again this fall if he had not opted out in the midst of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

The 6-foot-3 and 215 pound defensive back Ford will be immediately eligible to play wherever he lands next. He played in 22 games during this three years with the Tar Heels. Ford registered 72 career total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one interception, four pass deflections, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

Coming out of Clay Central High School in Lineville, AL, during the 2016 recruiting cycle, Ford was a notoriously underrated defensive back prospect. He only held two Power Five offers (UNC and Clemson), and four FBS offers overall. And he ranked as the nation’s No. 1,800 2016 high school prospect, No. 124 safety, and No. 63 prospect out of Alabama (247Sports Composite).
