2) Most disappointing Texas football players: D’shawn Jamison

The lone cornerback to receive preseason All-Big 12 honors in either of the last two seasons is the junior versatile special teams threat and the speedy D’shawn Jamison. This 5-foot-10 and 185 pound agile junior wears a lot of hats for the Longhorns, but he did a much better job with that utility last year than he’s doing through four games this season.

While Jamison is averaging a solid 13.7 yards per punt return and 33.0 yards per kick return this season, he’s also had a costly fumble that immediately resulted in a touchdown against Texas Tech. That muffed punt return by Jamison wasn’t even one that had all that much pressure on him, or was hard to field. But it is one of the multiple special teams mishaps for Texas in Big 12 play.

Jamison has also registered eight total tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, and two pass deflections, so far this season. Any momentum he built up in the secondary at the end of last season has died out early this year. He didn’t even have a single pass breakup until last weekend’s Red River loss to Oklahoma (where he was solid with two of them).

One of the worst tackling grades in the secondary belongs to Jamison, and he hasn’t made all that many big plays in coverage. He was tasked with mostly assuming the role as the primary cornerback for Texas this fall. But he hasn’t lived up to the billing. Jamison has three missed tackles on less than a dozen attempts, no interceptions, and went three games without a pass breakup and more than 100 receiving yards allowed.
