Texas football is running into some hard times under fourth-year head coach Tom Herman following their Oct. 10 loss to Oklahoma.

There’s a ton of heat coming onto the fourth-year Texas football head coach Tom Herman following two straight losses over the course of the last two weeks. After Texas fell short in the annual Red River Rivalry game last weekend at the hands of the Oklahoma Sooners, by the final score of 53-45 in four overtimes, the pressure really started to mount on Herman and his coaching staff.

Texas had a lot of chances to get that win over Oklahoma, especially in overtime. But constant mistakes on all sides of the ball really hurt the Longhorns, and cost them a win for the second straight week. The first loss in this two game skid that Texas finds themselves in right now came against head coach Gary Patterson and the TCU Horned Frogs.

The game against TCU looked like one that Texas could take control of at multiple points in both halves, but Herman’s squad never quite could seize the momentum. The same could be said for the Longhorns loss to Oklahoma in Red River on Oct. 10.

With all of the frustration mounting with current and former Texas players, and especially the fan base, Herman needs to find answers and soon. A few of his former players called out him and his staff on Twitter amid the difficult weekend for the Longhorns. Among those former players that called out the staff, punter Michael Dickson and safety DeShon Elliott were the most notable.

Elliott really put Herman on blast compared to former Texas head coach Charlie Strong. He stated on his Twitter timeline on Oct. 10 as Texas was losing to Oklahoma in regulation that “y’all though Coach Strong was a bad coach… what’s y’all take now?”.

That isn’t really a fair take from Elliott to compare Strong to Herman. While both struggled at different points over the course of the last six seasons with the Longhorns, the latter of the two found a lot more success during his time as head coach. Herman holds a record of 27-17 in his four years as head coach so far, while Strong’s record on the Forty Acres was a mere 16-21.

Elliott played for the Longhorns mostly under Strong, but he did have one year under Herman. Elliott played under Herman only during the 2017 season, which saw the Longhorns win seven games, including the Texas Bowl over the Mizzou Tigers.

Texas now owns a record of 2-2 (1-2 Big 12) after losing to Oklahoma and TCU over the course of the last two weeks. They now head into a bye week, needing to bounce back in their next game on Oct. 24 against the Baylor Bears at home.
