Texas Football: 3 most unlikable OU players since 2000
3) Unlikable OU players for Texas football since 2000: Rhett Bomar
A player that would be more in the realm of one of the most disliked Sooners in the history of their program from not just a Longhorns perspective, but for any fan base of any team, is the 6-foot-2 and 225 pound quarterback Rhett Bomar. There’s a lot of Oklahoma rivals that don’t like Bomar thanks to all of his not too kind words about competing programs in his one season in Norman.
The two main programs that have to really have some burning hatred for Bomar are Oklahoma’s two biggest rivals in the modern day. Texas and the Oklahoma State Cowboys took the brunt of the blow in terms of the disrespect from Bomar. He was a constant proponent of the “Horns down” and one of the most avid trash talkers in recent memory for any Oklahoma quarterback.
But it was really gratifying for the Longhorns to do what they did to Bomar and the Sooners in the Red River Rivalry game during the 2005 season. Texas absolutely dominated Bomar in 2005, on their way to winning the BCS National Championship Game in the 2006 Rose Bowl over the uber-talented USC Trojans.
Bomar completed just 12-of-33 passing attempts in Oklahoma’s loss to Texas in 2005, good for just 94 passing yards, one passing touchdown, and one interception. Texas got the win in that edition of Red River by the final score of 45-12. Bomar would only wind up tallying 10 passing touchdowns and 10 interceptions during his one season playing for Oklahoma in 2005, before transferring to join FCS Sam Houston State for the remainder of his college career.
