2) Unlikable OU players for Texas football since 2000: Adrian Peterson

Maybe the most likable of the three players on this list of unlikable Sooners since 2000 is the former Heisman Trophy finalist and legendary Oklahoma running back of the mid-2000’s Adrian Peterson. Still currently finding a way to make it in the NFL more than a dozen years into his Hall-of-Fame worthy career, AP is playing for the Detroit Lions in 2020.

AP spent three years playing for the Sooners, from 2004-2006. During his legendary Oklahoma career, he registered more than 4,000 rushing yards, 42 total touchdowns, and roughly 5.5 yards per carry. The best season for AP individually came during the 2004 campaign, where he was a Heisman finalist and nearly registered 2,000 rushing yards and 15 rushing scores.

But the main reason why Peterson is on this list is his avid ability to torch the Longhorns run defense, even when they were at their peak in the 2000’s under former head coach Mack Brown. He also wound up taking his talents to Norman to play for former Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops over Brown and the Longhorns.

Among Big 12 schools, Oklahoma State was the lone opposition of the Sooners that AP registered more rushing yards against than the Longhorns. He went for roughly 350 rushing yards (and nearly 100 kick return yards) in three tries against Texas, along with one rushing touchdown. He also averaged just shy of six yards per carry.
