3) Unlikable Sooners for Texas basketball since 2000: Ryan Spangler

Maybe the least notable former Oklahoma hoops player overall on the list, that was still a thorn in the side of a lot of Big 12 teams in the early-to-mid 2010’s, is 6-foot-8 and 230 pound Muskogee, OK, native and forward Ryan Spangler. Seemingly in Norman for the entirety of the 2010’s, Spangler actually played for Oklahoma from 2013-2016.

Spangler started out his college hoops career in the West Coast Conference, spending one season with the Gonzaga Bulldogs during the 2011-12 campaign. He then transferred to link up with current Oklahoma head coach Lon Kruger, sitting out a year, and debuting during the 2013-14 regular season.

The one-time All-Big 12 honoree played for the Oklahoma hoops program for three years. He averaged 9.8 points per game, 8.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.6 steals, and 0.8 blocks. And Spangler shot 56.9 percent from the field and just above 33.0 percent from beyond the arc, during his three years playing for the Sooners.

The Longhorns were mostly able to hold Spangler at bay in six games in the Red River series during his career in Norman. He averaged 7.3 points per game, 7.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.5 blocks. But where Spangler really held an edge over the Longhorns on the hardwood was in the win column.

Definitely the most frustrating part for Texas in facing Spangler was the 5-1 record that he held in his six tries as a Sooners against them.
