Texas Football: 3 worst 2021 recruiting misses for Tom Herman
1) Costliest 2021 Texas football recruiting misses: JoJo Earle
A wide receiver that, at one point in time, seemed like a potential slam dunk to get committed in the Longhorns 2021 recruiting class is the 5-foot-10 and 170 pound ultra-agile and elusive four-star skill position weapon JoJo Earle. This talented wideout hailing out of Aledo High School in Aledo, TX, was one of the higher ranked prospects at this position that the Longhorns offered.
Texas is still sending out a few offers to wide receiver prospects they’re targeting late in this cycle (i.e. West Virginia commit Kaden Prather and former KU commit Keon Coleman). But that is largely to make up for missing out on top wide receiver targets earlier in this recruiting cycle, like the LSU Tigers commit Earle.
Earle committed to play for head coach Ed Orgeron/wide receivers coach Mickey Josepth and the defending National Champions LSU back on April 23, 2020. He wound up choosing LSU over offers from more than two dozen other schools.
The other highlighting schools on his offer sheet (outside of LSU and Texas) included the Auburn Tigers, Baylor Bears, Alabama, Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Oregon Ducks, TCU Horned Frogs, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Aggies, and USC Trojans.
Moreover, Earle ranks as the nation’s No. 75 2021 high school prospect, and the No. 12 wide receiver and prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranks him as the nation’s No. 71 high school prospect, and the No. 10 wide receiver and prospect out of Texas.
