Texas football doesn’t have the greatest postseason outlook in the latest edition of ESPN’s bowl projections out of Week 7 of the season.

Week 7 of the 2020 college football season is wrapped up officially, and there wasn’t much of a shakeup to the Big 12 landscape. The lone game of Big 12 action over the weekend was the West Virginia Mountaineers having a big second half to take down the lowly Kansas Jayhawks. The likes of the Texas football program, Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys etc. (the other eight Big 12 teams) were all off over the weekend.

Texas was on their first bye week in the midst of the Big 12 schedule this weekend. Next up for fourth-year head coach Tom Herman and the Longhorns is an Oct. 24 home contest against head coach Dave Aranda and the Baylor Bears. Baylor was supposed to face Oklahoma State in Week 7, but a plethora of active COVID-19 cases pushed that game back to mid-December.

In their latest edition of bowl projections following Week 7 of the 2020 college football season, ESPN had the Longhorns in a postseason slow that isn’t the most desirable for this team. Herman and the Longhorns were projected to play in the Cactus Bowl, with one writer picking them to face the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and the other picking them to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

The only team out of the Big 12 that was projected to fall to a lower bowl game on the latter for this conference was Baylor, who was picked to take part in the Armed Forces Bowl either against the UCF Knights or SMU Mustangs. Oklahoma State was the top projected team in the bowl picks out of the Big 12, taking on the BYU Cougars in the Cotton Bowl.

And Oklahoma was set to take on either the Ole Miss Rebels or Auburn Tigers out of the SEC in the Texas Bowl.

Texas carries a record of 2-2 (1-2 Big 12) after falling short to Oklahoma in the annual Red River Rivalry game back on Oct. 10, by the final score of 53-43 in four overtimes back on Oct. 10. Their other loss came at the hands of the TCU Horned Frogs back on Oct. 3 in the Longhorns Big 12 opener.

Last year, Herman saw his Longhorns down the Utah Utes in the Alamo Bowl in a dominant effort that saw them come up victorious by the final score of 38-10. And the Cactus Bowl is set to return after two years of it being named the Cheez-It Bowl officially. The last time it was called the Cactus Bowl was in 2017, when the Kansas State Wildcats downed Josh Rosen and the UCLA Bruins.
