Which former blue chip prospects that signed with the Texas football program didn’t get developed that well under head coach Tom Herman?

Definitely one of the biggest qualms that all critics of fourth-year Texas football head coach Tom Herman should have is the lack of quality player development since he first arrived on the Forty Acres following the 2016 season. Texas keeps getting quality recruiting classes cycle after cycle, and that even goes back to the tenure of former head coach Charlie Strong.

But the Longhorns really haven’t come up with a consistent turnout of NFL-caliber player development of blue chip prospects that they signed over the course of the last five or six years. Texas locked in three straight top 10 ranked recruiting classes in the nation for each of the past three cycles. That has yet to amount to a whole lot of success in the win column for the Longhorns, though.

With so much pressure falling on Herman’s shoulders of late, the concentration for the rest of the 2020 season needs to be making sure his top players play up to their talent level. This 2020 Texas team is the most talented and experienced that Herman had yet as the Longhorns head coach. But all that has amounted to is a 2-2 (1-2 Big 12) record coming out of the bye week.

Texas has losses to the rival Oklahoma Sooners and TCU Horned Frogs in very close games. And their only wins came over the Texas Tech Red Raiders and UTEP Miners. They really don’t have a legit quality win, despite all of the talent and experience present on the current roster.

With all of that in mind, here’s a look back at five blue chip recruits that Herman failed to develop during his time as the Longhorns head coach so far.
