3) Texas football blue chips that Herman didn’t develop: Jalen Green

A top three rated commit in the Longhorns ultra highly coveted 2018 signing class was the 6-foot-1 and 200 pound lengthy cornerback Jalen Green. It is a little too early to say if the Longhorns are going to get a good bit of contributions out of Green before his time on the Forty Acres is over, but he hasn’t done much in an efficient manner thus far.

It looked like Texas could take Green’s game to a new level this fall with the hiring of former Rutgers assistant Jay Valai as their next cornerbacks coach, and former Rutgers head coach Chris Ash as their next defensive coordinator/safeties coach. But he hasn’t done a whole lot to impress so far this season.

Coming out of Heights High School in Houston, TX, Green ranked as the nation’s No. 47 2018 high school prospect, No. 6 cornerback, and No. 4 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). And the Top247 ranked Green as the nation’s No. 18 high school prospect, No. 3 cornerback, and top overall prospect out of Texas.

Last year, Green registered a career-worst tackling grade, with eight total missed tackles and 30 combined tackles. That’s not a very effective number. And his coverage grades keep getting worse and worse as his career moves along.

Through three years playing for Texas, Green registered 39 total tackles, three tackles for loss, and six pass deflections.
