2) Texas football blue chips that Herman didn’t develop: B.J. Foster

The most highly rated prospect on this list, at least as a recruit coming out of high school in terms of the 247Sports Composite, is the junior safety/defensive back and 6-foot-2 and 195 pound B.J. Foster. Coming out of the gates red hot, alongside fellow former five-star recruit and safety Caden Sterns, during his true freshman campaign.

As a freshman back during the 2018 season, Foster registered 46 total tackles, nine tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, one interception, five pass deflections, and two forced fumbles. And pretty much all of the best defensive grades that Fostered posted in his three years playing for Texas thus far were during his freshman season.

There were areas of Foster’s game that did start rounding out for Foster last season, namely in pass coverage. But his game has largely regressed in multiple senses since the 2018 season. Foster has a career-low coverage grade, and second worst in rush defense and overall defensive grade of his career to date in the current season.

Coming out of Angleton High School in Angleton, TX, Foster ranked as the nation’s No. 24 2018 high school prospect, No. 3 safety, and No. 2 prospect out of Texas (247Sports Composite). Through his three years playing for Texas so far, Foster registered 105 total tackles, 14.0 tackles for loss, five sacks, two interceptions, seven pass deflections, and two forced fumbles.
