Texas Football: 3 2021 prospects left that are must-gets for Tom Herman

The 2021 Texas football recruiting class has a long ways to go, but head coach Tom Herman has at least a few prospects to rely on for the rest of the cycle.

There’s not many good ways for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class to round things out ahead of the Early Signing Period beyond getting fourth-year head coach Tom Herman another top 10 ranked group in the nation. Texas is currently holding a 2021 recruiting class that is slipping up in the national class rankings and losing commitments and top tier targets of late.

The biggest detriment that arrived for the Longhorns of late on the recruiting trail was the elite four-star Denton-Ryan athlete Billy Bowman Jr. opening up his recruitment back on Oct. 7. Bowman Jr. could be taking his talents to join head coach Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma Sooners before too long, but maybe the Texas coaching staff can still win him back over.

Bowman Jr. was by far the second highest rated commit in the Longhorns 2021 class prior to his decommitment earlier this month. The highest rated at the moment is the five-star Denton-Ryan athlete (and teammate of Bowman Jr.’s) Ja’Tavion Sanders. He’s the lone five-star commit, and Bowman Jr. is close to earning that coveted fifth star.

According to the 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, the 2021 Texas recruiting class ranks at No. 17 in the nation and remains in the second spot behind Oklahoma in the Big 12. They hold 17 commits in the 2021 class, with the latest coming from underrated three-star Strake Jesuit offensive tackle Max Merril (back on Sep. 25).
